We help our clients to develop and enhance their approach to respecting and advancing human rights.
Since 2011, the ‘Protect, respect and remedy’ framework outlined in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) gave rise to a new era of respect for and advancement of the rights of all. It not only catalysed greater engagement between States and the business community, it has also contributed to the introduction of a range of guidelines, frameworks, standards and regulations that organisations need to understand and manage.
Our team bring their practical experience in business and human rights to help navigate this highly interconnected and complex field. We also take clients beyond societal expectations and compliance requirements, and toward a strategic approach that seeks to advance human rights.
Our human rights related services include:
- Human rights policy and position statements: developing the organisation-wide commitment and actions to respect human rights in accordance with the UNGPs and aligned with existing sustainability and people policies.
- Human rights risk and impact assessment: undertaking people impact and business risk assessments across our client’s value and supply chain.
- Salient issues determination: helping narrow down the long list of rights to a more manageable number of salient issues to guide a more strategic approach to human rights.
- Modern slavery compliance: supporting clients either directly and indirectly required to meet recent and emerging modern slavery regulations, including the United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act, the Australian Modern Slavery Reporting Requirement, and the New South Wales Modern Slavery Act.
- Human rights disclosures: supporting organisations in their disclosures in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework and the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB).
- Specialised action plan development: supporting clients with the development of specific mandatory or voluntary action plans relating to disability and accessibility, diversity and inclusion, financial inclusion, consumer vulnerability and indigenous reconciliation.
- Advancement of human rights: through the development of human rights led investment and impact programs designed to support vulnerable people and communities.
